"White Room" updates!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't fallen off the planet; I'm working, I promise! My second semester in college is pretty crazy, consisting of 20 credit hours of classes, 2 ensemble classes, 2 instruments to take lessons on, and (currently but probably not holding up for too much longer) 2 majors to sort out!

Needless to say, I've had little chance to be writing! Regardless, I have been getting a little more headway on my new story - it's just taking longer than I might like. As of today, I am up to 70 pages, with (in my opinion) a strong beginning, climax, and ending all prepared. It's just that middle part and the rising and falling actions that are throwing me for a little loop. But, have no fear, I am very confident in this story idea, and I think that it will turn out okay. :D

"The White Room" Begins

I got up to 58 pages on my first draft of this newest story today, which was very exciting because of the long block and lack of motivation in writing it that I had for a while.

This new story isn't much yet, but I'm really happy with it right now and ready to get it moving. It is about a boy who is sent to an insane asylum after his best friend disappears to all the world but him. My story utilizes the second person voice in some sections, drawing the reader himself into the life of this boy.

Please feel free to check out a free preview of an excerpt from the beginning of the story; I'd be glad to receive any feedback you may have!

Thanks,

Andrea

Another Great Booksigning!

Thanks to everyone who came to the Panther Creek High School Band fundraising day at Barnes and Noble on November 17th, which was a great success!

The drumline played a performance, I did a book signing and discussion, and then the jazz combo played for a while. All told, it was a fabulous evening. There were many people there supporting the band and we sold about 50 copies of my books.

Thanks again to Panther Creek High School's band, Mr. Don Minnick and Mr. David Robinson, and everyone who attended!

Book Signing a Success!

I'm very happy with how the signing for Sterling Montessori went! I wish it hadn't been a Thursday at such a weird time, because I know a lot of people couldn't come. I do know that the next one will be Tuesday, November 17th (most likely I will be speaking around six, but don't quote me on that).

This next event will benefit the Panther Creek High School Marching Band, of which I am an alum and this season's woodwind instructor. I am excited for this event because they are doing fantastic so far this year, but could always use some more support.

Spread the word! More info as it is settled...

Barnes & Noble Book Signing Sep. 3

This is so exciting! This fundraiser/ book talk/ signing event will be the first time that Some Other Time has seen the public eye since it went live one month ago.

I spoke with the wonderful Linda Maloof at the Cary Barnes & Noble store today about the event, and she was very helpful. We discussed the date and time for the event, as well as how the event itself was part of a 3-day book fair for Sterling Montessori School. September 3, the last day of the fair, will be the day geared towards the older classes, mostly 7th and 8th graders. Of course it is open to whoever would like to see me, raise money, or buy some books!

We have plans to hold another book fair event to benefit the Panther Creek High School band program, which I was a part of for three years and am employed by as the woodwind instructor for this coming marching band season. The date for this event is still in the works, but it will be great, and I expect to see all of my flute players there! ;)

YAY!

My prequel is finally out there! I'm very excited to finally be done with the thing, even though I have fallen in love with many of my characters (especially Tyre, Citrosine, and Pherkue!). I hope that everyone will let me know what they think of the story, as well as my older one, for those who have not read it yet. That's often the best part about writing: finding out what people think of your work!

I will probably not be writing about Ilthen or these characters again, at least not for a long time, because I want to try some new styles and settings, and I also have in mind a book of short stories...

Keep on reading, and thanks for all your support!

YIKES!

Wow. I can't believe how stuck I am! As it turns out, having a full load of senior year classes, working a marching band, and...working a marching band, and working a marching band takes up a lot of writing time! The whole college thing is also not so easy. Oh, were everything as easy as writing a novel...

Anyway, thanks again to all my readers and viewers--give me until November or December and I'll send you a prequel. I promise! I think you'll all agree that the new story will eclipse the other!

Prequel!

I am so excited about this prequel! The story is nearly through with my edits, and I've already let out a few sneak peeks of some of my favorite parts. These are, so far, a success! I really want this book to have more publicity than UWMA because, for one thing, I like this one better so far. It is a little bit more mature than the last, mainly because it is now coming from the mind of a centuries-old Elf--and because I'm not an eleven-year-old trying to copy successful books like Eragon, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.

I will be sending the book off to agent(s) and publisher(s) very soon--college prep and my AP class homework take up a lot of my writing time, so things have been dreadfully slow. Andrea who? Yeah, she wrote a book, right...? I can't remember, but I think I've read it...

I hope for this book to stand out in people's minds, and now I don't have the excuse of being an eleven-year-old writer anymore. I'm a sixteen-year-old who is expected to write very well. Do I? Well, that is less up to me than it is up to the readers who don't already know everything about the inside of my head--a very scary place I don't recommend visiting for too long of stretches at a time.

It's Almost Been A Year Already...?

Things have been slowing down a bit, but Panther Creek High is full of new opportunities. I've been spreading interest little by little, and, hopefully, I'll soon get a literary agent that can help me push my prequel out somewhat more forcefully! See you then...
